«È troppo semplicistico dire, anche se sono stati in molti a dirlo, che io faccio un atto di accusa contro questo mondo industrializzato e inumano che schiaccia l’individuo e lo nevrotizza. Al contrario, la mia intenzione (anche se spesso uno sa molto bene da dove parte, ma non ha idea di dove arriverà) era di rendere la bellezza di quel mondo. Anche le fabbriche possono essere dotate di grande bellezza. Le linee rette e curve delle fabbriche e delle loro ciminiere possono essere anche più belle di un filare d’alberi che l’occhio ha già visto troppe volte. È un mondo ricco, vivo, utile»

Tempi, Immagini e suoni, elementi separati che concorrono al racconto di un luogo, elementi che si rincorrono e ricongiungono. E proprio dal suono riparte la ricerca sul campo che poi si evolve in immagine che evolve e muta nel tempo. Cosa resta oggi, a mezzo secolo di distanza, del corpo di quei luoghi di produzione, che all'epoca di Antonioni simboleggiavano in qualche modo l'evoluzione del contemporaneo?
Come sono mutati gli scenari e i luoghi nel nostro contemporaneo?
La Ravenna post-Deserto Rosso. Un’esplorazione fotografica del territorio in cui viviamo, una ricerca sul paesaggio urbano, vedute delle città e dei suoi aspetti meno noti ed esplorati. Un viaggio durato anni seguendo itinerari non segnalati dalle guide turistiche , un viaggio lento che permette di osservare i segni che il tempo imprime sul corpo di questi paesaggi in continuo ed inesorabile mutamento. Segni permanenti lasciati dalla industrializzazione selvaggia degli anni 50 e 60, segni temporanei inflitti dal ciclico e infinto alternarsi di inverni e stagioni balneari, da stagioni di boom economico e da periodi difficili. Un osservazione lenta che permette di mettere a fuoco quello che non siamo abituati a guardare o che forse preferiamo non guardare. Un viaggio nel tempo, un tessuto di storie, racconti d’osservazione a proposito del Cosa Resta e delle tracce che stiamo decidendo di tramandare. Dai silenzi delle spiagge invernali ai suoni industriali di fabbriche e banchine, dalle sinfonie delle piallasse alla speranza di rinascita e rinnovamento dei quartieri cittadini.

What is left (observation tales)

“Even if many have said it, saying that I accuse this industrialized and inhuman world to crush and make neurotic individuals is far too simplistic. On the contrary, my intention (even if one often knows very well where he is leaving from, but has no idea about where he ends up) was to show the beauty of that world. Factories can show great beauty. The straight and bend lines of factories and smokestacks can be more beautiful of a tree row too often seen by our eye. It’s a rich, alive, useful world”. Times, images and sounds, separate elements contributing to the tale of a place, elements which run around and join together. And the field research starts from the sound and the evolves in images and changes in time. What is left today, after half a century, of the body of those production places which in Antonioni’s times represented somehow the evolution of the contemporary? The post-Red Desert Ravenna is a photo-graphical exploration of the territory where we live, a research on the urban landscape, views of the town and of its less known and explored aspects. A journey that has taken years and has followed itineraries you cannot find in tourist guides, a slow journey that allow to observe the signs time has imprinted in the body of these landscape undergoing a continuous and unrelenting change. Permanent signs left by the wild industrialization in the Fifties and Sixties, temporary signs inflicted by the cyclic and infinite alternating of winters and summers, by booming economy periods and crisis. A slow observation to focus on what we are not used to look at or we rather not look at. A journey through time, a texture of stories, tales of observation about What is left and the traces we are deciding to pass on. From winter beach silences to industrial sounds of factories and docks, from the symphonies of the piallasse (lagoon) to the hope of rebirth and renewal of city neighborhood.
